BIOGRAPHY

Nicolas Girard is a composer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist, and a master's student at the University of Montreal in composition, specializing in sound spatialization. An active musician, he has performed in several concerts as a pianist, percussionist, and accordionist, including in the UdS Broadway Orchestra (2025 edition), the Checkpoint Orchestra, the Haut-Saint-François Wind Ensemble, the Lumi•e•res ensemble of the University of Sherbrooke School of Music, and even at wedding ceremonies during the summer. He is currently the artistic and logistics coordinator of the Rendez-vous d'Howard festival in Sherbrooke.

 

Nicolas won two first major international awards in online composition for his compositions Emancipation (2024) and Chemical Somnia (2024), respectively in the Original Composition and Film/Game Music categories.

 

Committed to research, he completed an introductory research internship under the supervision of Professor Ariane Couture during which he received a scholarship to work in the archives of Quebec composer Robert Marcel Lepage. He developed a research project based on one of his works to promote his archives. He also shared the results of his research in the form of a conference at the Robert Marcel Lepage Study Day at the University of Sherbrooke (April 2025), at the 54th Congress of Quebec Archivists, and at MusCan at the University of Waterloo in Ontario (May 2025).
